Garage Door FAQ: Houston Homeowners’ Most Common Questions

Straight answers about pricing, timing, safety, and what to expect when you call Garage Pros Houston — no sales pitch, just what you need to know.

Pricing & Estimates

How much does garage door repair cost in Houston?

It depends on what’s broken. As a general guide: a tune-up runs $59 flat, opener repair is $125–$300, off-track repair is $150–$300, roller/cable replacement is $130–$280, and broken spring replacement is $175–$350. New door installation typically runs $750–$2,200 depending on size and material. See our full pricing page for the complete breakdown — and we always give you a firm, exact quote on-site before any work starts.

Is there a fee just to have someone come look at my door?

No. Same-day service calls are free — you only pay for the actual repair, and we quote that price upfront before touching your door.

Will I know the price before you start working?

Yes. You get a clear, upfront price before any work begins. No inflated “surprise” charges after the job is done.

Scheduling & Service

How fast can you get to my house?

Most Houston-area calls are on the schedule the same day. Call or text 713-835-8819 and we’ll give you a real arrival window, not a vague “sometime today.”

My garage door won’t open or close at all — is that an emergency?

Treat it as urgent. Don’t force the door, and don’t keep hitting the opener button — that can make things worse or unsafe. Call us and we’ll get someone out the same day in most cases.

Do you work on commercial garage doors too?

Yes. We handle both residential and commercial properties throughout the Houston area.

What areas do you serve?

Houston and the surrounding metro, including Katy, Cypress, Spring, The Woodlands, Tomball, and Conroe.

Safety & Maintenance

Is a broken garage door spring dangerous to leave alone?

Yes. A broken torsion spring puts the door out of balance and can strain the opener or cause the door to drop unexpectedly. Don’t try to force the door open — call us and we’ll come secure it safely. See our 24/7 emergency repair page for what to do while you wait.

How long does a garage door actually last in Houston’s climate?

Panels typically last 20–30 years, openers 10–15 years, and torsion springs 7–12 years (about 10,000–20,000 cycles). Houston’s humidity accelerates rust on hardware, and sustained heat breaks down lubrication and weatherstripping faster than in drier climates — so components on the lower end of those ranges are common here.

What’s included in a tune-up?

A full inspection of springs, cables, rollers, hardware, tracks, and the opener, plus lubrication of moving parts, hardware tightening, and a safety check — $59 flat.

Should I repair my garage door or replace it?

Repair usually makes sense if the panels are straight, it’s a single-component failure (spring, cable, roller, opener), and the door is under about 15 years old. Replacement tends to make more sense if multiple panels are damaged or you’re on your third or fourth repair for the same door within a couple of years.

Brands & Technicians

Do you repair all garage door brands?

Yes — we work on all major residential and commercial doors and openers, including Genie, LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Clopay, Amarr, and Wayne Dalton systems.

Are your technicians licensed?

Yes. Every repair is handled by a trained, licensed technician — not a subcontractor you’ve never met.

Do you only fix the door, or openers too?

Both. We repair and replace openers of all major brands, including smart opener installs, in addition to doors, springs, cables, rollers, and tracks.
